Writing for children

As part of my MA in creative writing, I’ve written a book for 8 to 12 year olds called The Sibling Removal Agency.

I’ll be adding some excerpts from the book here soon, plus one or two ‘deleted scenes’.

Recently I was lucky enough to visit St Margaret’s C of E primary school in Horsforth where I talked to year 5 about some of my favourite books, how to turn an idea into a story, and how to describe settings. Year 5 also got a sneak preview of my first chapter, which I very much enjoyed reading to them.

Catherine Birkby, a teacher at the school, said: “Thanks for a really lovely afternoon. The first chapter of your book had me hooked. Your presentation was great, you certainly kept the attention of the children and the visuals were good. Please come again!”

You can read more about my visit here.
